What kind of shoes or boots would be appropriate for Boston during winter?

I 'm the from Southern California and time here is beautiful, but I 'm going to be in Boston, mA for the winter break, so it 'll have the place around Christmas time. My friends from around here are saying I should survive with the type of shoe UGG, but I wanted to be sure so I was wondering what kind of shoes / uploads the system would need to survive the cold weather and snow. Thank you!

    The most warm just make sure to waterproof them so that they dont get completely ruined when it snows and uggs its already freezing here and uggs would be the most.
